Review of Central Scotland

Central Scotland consists of three districts located within the Central Region. Central Scotland districts include Falkirk, Stirling and Clackmannanshire. Central Scotland shares boundaries with South of Scotland, West of Sctotland, Glasgow, Fife, the Lothians and the Mid-Scotland region. Central Scotland consists of two council areas, the Falkirk council area and the North Lanarcshire council area and portions of three other areas. The remainders of the three council areas are a part of either the South or West of Scotland regions.

Central Scotland consists of ten constituencies; Airdrie and Shotts, Kilmarnock and Loudoun, East Kilbride, Hamilton South, Hamilton North and Bellshill, Motherwell and Wishaw, Coatbridge and Chyston, Cumbernauld and Kilsyth, Falkirk West and Falkirk East. The total administrative area of Central Scotland covers approximately 4,900km and boasts a population of approximately 2,500,000 residents almost half of Scotlands population and over four percent of the population of the UK.

Regions or counties often associated with Central Scotland include Arran, East Dunbartonshire, East Lothian, East Renfrewshire, Edinburgh, Falkirk, Glasgow and Great Cambrae. Other counties included in the region are Inverclyde, Little Cambrae, Mid Lothian, North Ayrshire, North Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire, West Dunbartonshire and West Lothian. Central Scotland is home to cultural icons such as the Dundee Rep Theatre and the Scottish Dance Theatre. Central Scotland is also home to cutting-edge night clubs and live performances. One of the most exciting features of Central Scotland is its unique weather patterns. Central Scotland’s weather varies from one extreme to the other and everything in-between.

Scotland enjoys a mixed economy and like most other parts of the UK Scotland has moved away from being a predominantly manufacturing and shipbuilding society to a more service sector oriented society.
