Ipswich is a town located in Suffolk, England. The town is located at the estuary head of the River Orwell. Ipswich boasts a population of approximately 118,000 residents. In recent years, Ipswich has been almost completely remodeled. The town has been redesigned to present more of a waterfront appeal. Many residents feel that the design is aimed at bringing in wealthier residents as most of the renovation is in residential areas.

The docks in the area focus almost entirely on leisure time activities. Apartments have recently been built in this area as well as a University College. A 67 acre park has also been created in the area known as Holywells Park. The best shopping in town can be found in the ancient Saxon marketplace known as Cornhill.

Industry in the Ipswich area has traditionally focused on agriculture. Until 2001 the town housed a sugar beet factory and boasts the invention of the first motorized lawn mower in 1902 by Ransomes.

Transportation in the region includes two railway stations providing service to local regions. Ipswich buses provide a busing service. In 1996, the local airport was de-licensed and put out of commission. Transportation by car is made easy by a network of roadways connecting the surrounding areas.

Ipswich has a fairly successful and popular football team. The town also boasts a very successful speedway team. The team is one of the most successful teams in British history.

Many famous residents have called Ipswich home including The Adicts, Dani Filth, Frank Leslie, and Sarah Trimmer. Other famous residents include V.S. Pritchett, Jenny Platt, and many others.

Review from Loisjoy Thurstun
Ipswich is a very under-rated town. it is only 1hr 10 mins from London Liverpool street, but a completely different existence from the hurly burly of the overcrowed city. Rents and houses are far, far cheaper and schools in Ipswich are generally very good. Northgate and Copplestone have excellent results and Ipswich School and Ipswich High appear high up among the top achieving independent schools ratings. Not quite as high as the top London schools, but the fees and pressures are not as high either. Ipswich has wonderful parks , especially Christchurch Park with its beautiful Elizabethan Mansion - which serves the public as a museum and art gallery, and also the excitement of the docks with its new developments and restaurants and cafes. The new University is being built on the water front, to open this autumn, which will bring an insurge of young people to the town. There will be new shopping developments soon too. This is the area where Ipswich could improve - more quality shops are needed, but all the basic shops are there, and the some bespoke or designer shops are beginning to move in.
East Anglia is generally sunnier than other parts of Britain and having all the
beautiful Suffolk coast on the doorstep makes Ipswich a relaxing and exciting place to live. Newcomers tend to be jaded Londoners. There is an exisiting snobbery among native Suffolk folk about Ipswich, but it has changed substantially in the last few years and is a town worth watching.
