Review of Aberdeen
Aberdeen or the Granite City is the third largest city in Scotland. The city is located approximately 90 miles northeast from Edinburgh and 400 miles away from London. The city lies on the banks of the river Don and the river Dee.
Aberdeen and its granite buildings appeal to many visitors and locals, but others find the city colorless, grey, and unappealing. Regardless, the city has a booming oil industry and is responsible for a good deal of the country’s wealth. Traditionally, Aberdeen was a fishing and textile oriented city, these more traditional industries have been replaced for the most part by not only the oil boom that has spanned the last three generations but also by technology oriented industries.
Aberdeen can seem cold and unwelcoming, but it holds its fair share of art and beauty including Aberdeen’s exceptional Art Gallery and Maritime Museum. The city is also home to many fine dining establishments and pubs.
Many of the town’s homes from the nineteenth century have been preserved and are displayed as museums. Homes for sale in the more modern area of town boasts chic homes in the form of tall town houses.
Aberdeen also provides an excellent opportunity for higher education. Universities such as the University of Aberdeen, Marischal College and the Robert Gordon University sustain a healthy student population. Students are attracted to the city for higher education, beautiful beaches, and the cities bustling nightlife.
Aberdeen is religiously mixed with over 40 percent of the population claiming to have no religion, and the majority of residents claiming Christianity. The city even boasts an Islamic Mosque. Several churches have been converted through the years to restaurants and pubs.
Aberdeen is famous for its beautiful parks and gardens. The city has won the Britain in Bloom ‘Best City’ award ten times. The gardens are very impressive with millions of roses, daffodils and crocuses. Visitors will surely not want to miss these extravagant gardens.
