I have lived in Gerlan for three years. On many information sites Gerlan is considered a deprived area, why it is considered deprived I do not know. It is situated just under the Carneddau mountain range and above the floor of the Ogwen Valley. The views I wake up to every morning are one of the most beautiful I have ever seen. If outdoor living is your thing, then Gerlan is fantastic, the Snowdonia National Park starts at the edge of Gerlan. The people in Gerlan are extremely friendly. The population is made up of those who have lived here all their lives and people like myself who have moved into the area from neighbouring towns and those who have moved from farther afield for a peaceful setting. There are no shops or pubs in Gerlan, however the village of Bethesda is within walking distance and has plenty of amineties. Gerlan is not far from the A5 trunk road making travelling to different work areas easy. The one down side to Gerlan is the lack of large properties, and due to that problem there may come a time where I will have to move from the splendour of the hamlet of Gerlan and back to the noise of larger villages and towns.
