Review of Merseyside
Merseyside is a county located in the North West region of England with Merseyside being divided into two parts by the Mersey estuary. The first part is located to the west of the estuary and the second part is located to the east of the estuary. The county consists of five metropolitan boroughs; Liverpool, Sefton, Wirral, St. Helens, and Knowsley.
Merseyside is bordered by Lancashire, Greater Manchester and Cheshire. The county boasts a population of approximately 1,400,000 people with approximately 97 percent of the population being reported as White, and the other three percent reporting in as a mixture of Black, Asian and Chinese.
Merseyside’s main industry is service related. The county enjoys a thriving economy. Agriculture is a small contributor to the region’s economic stability with very little agriculture being produced. Only a moderate amount of manufacturing contributes to the economy on Merseyside, contributing the majority of the county’s economy to the booming and very prosperous service industry.
There are many historic and cultural places of interest on Merseyside including the Liverpool Cathedral, Albert Dock, Speke Hall, Anfield and the Cavern Club. Other unique sites include Lady Lever Art Gallery, Museum of Liverpool Life, Walker art Gallery and the Merseyside Maritime Museum.
Parks and recreation areas include the Leasowe Lighthouse, North Wirral Coastal Park, Port Sunlight, Bidston Windmill, and Goodison Park. Merseyside provides a wide range of historic, cultural and recreational opportunities.
