Review of Tyne & Wear

Tyne and Wear is a county located in the North East region of England. The county is located near the mouths of the rivers Tyne and Wear. Tyne and Wear consists of five metropolitan boroughs including Gateshead, the City of Sunderland, Newcastle upon Tyne North and South Tyneside. The county boasts a population of approximately 1,000,000 people with about 97 percent of the population being recorded as White and almost two percent recorded as South Asian.

Public transportation in the region is provided by the Tyne and Wear Transport Authority. The Tyne and Wear Metro rail system also provides service in the area as well as access to surrounding towns.

There are many places of interest in the area providing historical and cultural enrichment. Interesting sites include the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, Tyneside Cinema, The Discovery Museum and the Hancock Museum. Other places of interest include Newcastle Castle Keep, Tynemouth Castle and Arbeia. Other favorites include the Souter Point Lighthouse, The Museum and Winter Gardens, The National Glass Centre and the Northern Gallery for Contemporary Art.

Tyne and Wear provide many opportunities for outdoor activities and recreation as well. The Gateshead Millinium Bridge, Jesmond Dene public park, St. James’ Park, St. Mary’s Island and Marsden Rock are popular spots. The Sea to Sea Cycle Route and the Wildlfowl and Wetlands Trust are also frequently visited sites.
