Review of Isle of Wight

The Isle of Wight is an English county and island located off the southern coast of England. The Isle of Wight is famous for its natural beauty and is used by many as a vacation spot. The island boasts a population of approximately 140,000 people with about 98 percent of the population reported as White.

More than half of the West side of the island has been designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The island’s cliffs and ledges support a variety of plants and animal species. The area has also been the site of many dinosaur fossil discoveries.

The county’s main towns include the Newport, Ryde, Cowes and Sandown. Shanklin and Ventnor are also important towns on the island. The Isle of Wight depends heavily on tourism and other related industries. The majority of the county’s economic wealth is derived from these industries. Agriculture plays a significant role in the island’s economy as well. Sheep and dairy farming are also common in the region.

The island boasts a number of natural wonders and places of interest. The Isles natural beauty is a main attraction for both local and International tourists. The Isle of Wight offers a fantastic vacation alternative for those who do not wish to pay the high costs to fly.

The region’s primary means of transportation to the mainland is boat or ferry. There is also a local railway service available known as the Island Line. Bicycling is also a popular mode of transportation on the island.

The island is also home to three prisons; Albany, Camphill and Parkhurst. The Isle of Wight’s geographical location provides an ideal location for the prisons. The prison facilities can be accessed via two privately owned roads.

The island is famous for events such as the Isle of Wight Festival, Bestival and the Garlic Festival. Other notable events include the Walking Festival and Cowes Week. These well recognized festivals bring many tourists to the island each year.
