Review of Medway

Medway is located in north Kent, England. The Medway consists of five towns located on the River Medway that merged together. The five towns include Rochester, Strood, Gillingham, Rochester Cathedral and the Chatham dockyard.

Medway is a conurbation comprised of the five main towns and many smaller towns in the area. Parts of the North Kent Marshes are also included in the conurbation. The marshes include several sites of interest.

Medway is located in South East England with a population of approximately 250,000 people. Traditionally, Medway’s main industry came from the Chatham Dockyard. The Dockyard was closed in recent years leaving approximately 3,000 people or more unemployed. Most of the Medway residents now commute to outside areas for employment.

There are almost twenty settlements located within the borough including Chatham, Gillingham, Luton, Rochester and Wainscott to name a few.

Four of Medway’s five main towns are located on the A2. The A2 is the main roadway and access road to the surrounding areas. There are several less prominent roads that run through and around Medway providing access and convenience.

Medway boasts seven rail stations including the Rochester, Strood, Chatham, Rainham, Gillingham, Cuxton and the Halling railway stations.

The River Medway is not currently being used for transportation purposes. It is primarily used for recreation with a few exceptions. Medway does boast one small airstrip that is not used for international purposes but utilized instead on a much smaller scale.

Medway provides many opportunities for sports including swimming, squash, trampolining, tennis and ice-skating. The area is home to a variety of sporting interests and sports centres.
