Ive just bought a house here, primarily because it is a cheap place to buy but when I visited to view, I was blown away by the area. Banwen is actually just 1 street of about 70 houses, it lies on an old Roman Road rising into the forestry on the side of a hill. You have spectacular views of the Brecon Beacons National park laid out before you, as well as the Black Mountains away to the West. It is a semi-rural area and most of the houses were constructed about 110-120 yrs ago to service the local coal mine.

Banwen is very close to Dyffryn Cellwen, which has a shop, post office, pub, etc. and Onllwyn is just a little further, Banwen seems to be well served by a bus service, but life is a lot easier if you have a car. Glynneath is a 10 minute drive away, there are a variety of shops, a Tesco Metro, takeaways, pubs, etc.

As a complete stranger I have been made to feel extremely welcome by my neighbours and everyone in the Road seems very warm and open. Other people I have spoken to tell me that they are not from Banwen but having lived here cant imagine living anywhere else.
