Redland is an attractive suburb and parish within the County of Bristol and the Bristol West Parliamentary constituency.
It is situated between Clifton, Cotham and Bishopston, and is bordered by the popular Whiteladies Road and Gloucester Roads.
Redland is a widely varied area especially popular with families and students; particularly with second and third year students from the citys universities.
Redland is famous for its Grade I listed building Georgian parish church Redland Chapel, which was built, in 1742 as a private chapel for the local manor house, Redland Court.
Redland Court, which is a Grade II* listed building was built between 1732 and 1735 on the site of an Elizabethan House which previously stood on the same site. It is now Redland High School for Girls, which is a non denominational girls school and currently the top independent girls’day school in Bristol.
Nearby Redland Green is one of north Bristols most ancient sites of habitation. The Green is open 365 days a year and has an enclosed dog-free children’s playground. It also has a bowling green that is managed by the Redland Green Bowling Club.
The area has been boosted by the development of the Redland Green School which occupies a brand new £33 million building and will have 945 11-16 year-olds and 450 post-16 students when full. There are also dedicated facilities for 50 students with severe, profound and multiple learning difficulties.
Redland is served by the Severn Beach Railway Line and the station is between Montpelier railway station and Clifton Down railway station on Whiteladies Road. The Severn Beach line ruins from Avonmouth at the top of the River Avon down into Temple Meads; Bristol’s main railway station.
Houses for sale in Redland includes single houses, apartments and flats and cover a range of styles and prices. There are a few homes for sale in Redland and available properties in the area are comprised mostly of apartments and flats.
(Reviewer Martin Barratt spent some of his childhood in Redland and had to endure lessons at Kings Tennis Club in the area. He still likes Redland, but the same cannot be said for the tennis.)
