Stoke Bishop is a very affluent outer city suburb in the north-west of Bristol, located in between Westbury-on-Trym, Sneyd Park, and Sea Mills.
Leafy and green and bordering the very popular Durdham Downs, Stoke Bishop is well known for its quiet, relaxed and secluded roads. Parts of the neighbourhood like Mariners Drive are known for their houses being worth over £1 million. Being so steep, Mariners Drive is very good for launching home made go karts down (although stopping them is a rather painful experience.)
Although relatively small, Stoke Bishops population varies throughout the year because of the influx of students to the large campus of halls of residence situated on the edge of the suburb during university term time.
Badock, Churchill, Durdham, Hiatt Baker, University and Wills Halls are all part of the University of Bristol and some are considered the best halls of residence in the country.
Stoke Bishop is concentrated around a small village hall and a row of shops on Druid Hill, with a number of small local businesses. Within Stoke Bishop there are three churches including St Mary Magdalene (CofE) and a Baptist Church. There is also Stoke Bishop Primary, (also known as Cedar Park) and a village hall, which is used for a variety of activities from dog training to Karate.
There also remains one playing field, Stoke Lodge, mainly used by local schools for athletics, football, and cricket.
On the edge of Stoke Bishop is the Coombe Dingle Sports Complex. The Complex is managed by the University of Bristol on behalf of the Coombe Dingle Sports Trust Ltd, a company which represents the interest of the University of Bristol, Avon Lawn Tennis Association, Bristol City Council and Clifton High School.
