Review of The Borders
Borders is an area in Scotland that is bordered by Dumfries and Galloway, South Lanarkshire, West Lothian and the City of Edinburgh, East Lothian, Midlothian, and Northumberland and Cumbria. The Borders area boasts a population of approximately 110,000 people and has been experiencing slow but steady growth in recent years.
The Borders area has many hills and the River Tweed flows west to east through the area. The region is rich in history and culture with locals proudly referring to themselves as Borderers.
There are many places of interest within the Borders region including the Floors Castle, Greenknowe Tower, and Duns Castle. Other points of interest in the area include the Kelso Abbey, Hawkshaw, and the Megget Reservoir. The area is home to numerous castles, national trails, museums and even the waterloo monument.
The Border economy has traditionally depended on textile as its main source of industry. More recent years have seen the electronics industry come and go. Presently, the Borders have seen a return to the textile industry, an increased focus on tourism, and a stable fishing and agriculture industry.
The Borders is highly regarded as a scenic driving experience, but it also offers a wide variety of other activities. Common border pastimes include outdoor activities such as fishing, golf, walking, badminton, cricket, football, rugby, hockey, swimming and tennis.
Recently, the Borders region has seen a large number of prominent businesses move into the area. This has helped the local economy out substantially. The city is working on several projects that will improve the quality of life for current residents while attracting new businesses and more affluent residents to the area.
Community projects include improving public transportation. The general idea for the area is to have a functional and convenient bussing system. The city is also in need of reliable taxi service. The Borders is growing and the economy is improving with more prominent businesses moving into the area.
