Review of Highlands & Islands
The Highlands are a mountainous region of the UK located in Scotland. The area is best known for its scenic beauty. The Highland area is densely populated and is governed by the Highland Council. The Scottish Highlands’ language is predominantly Gaelic, but Highland English is also common too. The culture found in the Highlands bears many similarities with the culture of Ireland. When comparing the two, it is easy to see that the language, musical tastes and sporting interests are quite similar. The Highland area is predominantly Roman Catholic and is set apart from the Lowland area mostly by culture. The area consists of the region north-west from Dumbarton to Stonehaven. The Highlands also consists of the Inner and Outer Hebrides, portions of Perthshire, and the county of Bute. The Highlands and Islands seem to overlap with no clear cut boundaries. Geographic lines are not always clear when defining the boundaries between the Highlands and the Lowlands, but the cultural differences tend to be very clear.
The Highland area also boasts some of the oldest rock formations in Scotland and the world. It is home to rocks that date back to the Cambrian and Precambrian period. Other rock formations dating back to millions of years ago exist in the Highlands. The Highland area consists of many towns and villages and lies alongside the Carron River.
The Highlands has much to offer in the way of culture and scenic beauty. It is home to the Glen Coe area, often thought of as one of the most beautiful places in Scotland. It is also where the Castle Tioram sits, and Inverewe Garden. Another popular Highland stop is the Glencoe ski centre. There are many lovely sites to see in the Highlands including Smoo Cave in Sutherland, Iverness, and the Rannoch Moor. The list of interesting and beautiful sites continues with the Cape Wrath Lighthouse and the islands of Loch Maree. The Highlands are an amazing site to see, and each city and town is rich with culture, history and heritage.
Houses for sale in and by the Highlands area include detached and semi-detached houses, townhouses, apartments and flats. Houses in the Highlands include a range of styles and prices.
